ETM 5481 - Seminar:
Sustainable Enterprise
Strategies |
|
|
Students will learn
about the principles of sustainability in the context of Industrial
Enterprises. The implications of sustainability in design of products,
industrial systems and infrastructure will be explored. Students will be
challenged to think strategically about how best to apply the principles
of sustainability in industrial settings. Course content will be
consistent with the concepts developed by the Engineers Forum on
Sustainability, a joint effort of the American Society of Civil
Engineers (ASCE), the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AICHE)
and the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE). The importance
of life cycle cost analysis as a key engineering economy tool will be
examined. "Green Manufacturing" will be discussed as a natural extension
of "Lean Manufacturing". Holistic application of systems thinking will
be emphasized. Students will be exposed to a variety of contemporary
reading on the topics of sustainability and resource productivity.
Students will apply these principles to a highly relevant topic from
their own work environment.
